However, people will hardly rush to get one of LED bulbs, for they are a lot more expensive. There is also some room for technological development.

According to the data provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, 20% of the electricity bill in the average household is spend on lighting cost. But LEDs can lessen the energy consumption.

LEDs first were used in the first electronic calculators’ displays, then spreading to versatile products,for example,computers,alarm systems,led car lights,and so on.

LED lights and LED lighting in general have now become globally accepted as an efficient low energy and low maintenance method of illumination. This is largely due to advances in LED light technology. LED lighting can be up to ten times more energy efficient than current incandescent lights. They remain close to room temperature, an added bonus is that this can cut down energy use even further by reducing the need for air-conditioning to extract the heat emitted by incandescent lights. LEDs are more durable than other lighting sources being resistant to heat, cold, shock and vibration. They can last tens of thousands of hours when used at rated current.

Analysts, manufactures and the government claim that LEDs are likely to supersede incandescent bulbs. Thus, the United States, the European Union , Australia  and Russia have initiated the process of prohibiting standard bulbs.

The new bulbs can be purchased online and at some retailers. However, it can take a few years for LEDs to become a commercial product. At the same time some types of LED bulbs, for example, LED car lights are widely used in the car industry.
